Thanks very much for your thoughts on the basket Tony.
It really is a wonderful designed piece. I've spent hours
pouring through reference books at the local library
and have seen hundreds of great basket photos - but none
that show any design quite like this one. I'll keep searching and will post a follow-up when I learn more.
Your suggestions as to its origin will be of much help.
