Chuck and Peggy Patrick
Description: Peggy made her first basket at the John C. Campbell Folk School in 1982. Chuck’s step-father showed him how to make the white oak splits, like his own mother had taught him. From this beginning they have both worked to increase their knowledge of this craft. More recently in 1999, Peggy began to study river cane basketry with Emma Jackson Garrett of the Cherokee Nation. The Patricks continue to make white oak and river cane baskets, and to teach in schools and events.

J. Byron Williams
Description: My basket-making spans more than 40 years. I began by reading books but soon realized the value of studying and learning from experts. I have had the good fortune to spend time with a host of wonderful and talented basket-makers. I like to think that my work reflects elements gleaned from all these fine people.
My work incorporates natural materials in traditional and innovative ways. Similarly the techniques I employ include many traditional methods, as well as some I have come up with myself.
My sales have been have been mostly of the direct nature at juried art shows primarily in the MD/VA region and in CO and NM. Recently, I have purchased a studio/gallery in the San Luis Valley of Colorado.
